Questions:

This page contains some common questions that are asked of me. If you have any specific enquiries, please |Contact me| and I will be happy to discuss your problem, or simply give advice.

How long will it take to fix my computer?

Short answer: Usually 1-2 hours for a complete fix up and a few other installations of hardware or software.

Long answer: It really depends on what your needs are. If your computer is seriously laden with viruses, spyware, and junk, it may take 2 hours to completely clean and remove all traces of the problems. Installing various new hardware, and software that you need can take under an hour. Also, I will advise you as I work, if a complication appears that will delay my progress.

How do you charge?

I charge on a per hour basis. Also, I charge for a minimum of one hour's work. However, if I finish early, for example, 1 hour, 45 minutes, I will spend the remaining time improving the performance of your computer, and adding other useful, tweaks and tools, if you so desire.

Please |Contact| me, and we can discuss your individual needs and I can approximate the time required.

Can I leave my computer with you, and you fix it?

Short answer: Yes, we can organise a solution.

Long answer: Normally I prefer to fix the client's computer in their home, where it is connected to all of its normal devices. Also you can see me work, which gives you the confidence in my efficiency and computing abilities. For most people, not having to unplug their computer is a great convenience.

If you need your computer to be serviced but it cannot take place at your home, we can organise for it to be picked up/dropped off before and after I repair it.

What happens if you break my computer?

Short answer: I will fix it.

Long answer: I have not yet broken, or damaged a client's computer in either the software, or hardware sense. Whilst working inside a computer, I am careful, and it is more than likley the hardware maintenance your computer requires is not dangerous. If there is a risky software situation, I have methods of separating any virus risk you computer already has, and then removing them. The risk of me damaging your computer is very small. However, if I do cause a problem, I will fix it for you.

I am panicking, my computer is acting very strangely, my files are missing and cardiac arrest is setting in.

Short answer: Push the power button, and contact me. Leave the computer off until I can remove the threat.

Long answer: No virus or trojan can act on your computer if it is off, which is easily the strongest defence against permanent damage. If your computer is infected with a virus, and it is not safe to even turn it on normally, I will attach a second hard drive temporarily and fix the problem from there. This separates the virus from my workings, and greatly reduces, if not, removes any risks that a virus can present. If files have been lost, it may be possible to recover some of them.
